This show is unreal.
Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Party aired last night and it reveals the possibility for comedic genius.
Martha Stewart, convict and empress of the kitchen, and Snoop Dogg, patron of the puff puff pass, came together to create a show that’s equal parts entertaining as it is strange.
This show is like ABC’s, The Chew, ate an edible and let Snoop Dogg take the lead. The show takes place with a live studio audience and has all the elements of a late-night show with the playful nature of a daytime talk show.
The set of the show is a literal game of opposites. On one side you have Snoop Dogg standing in a kitchen that looks straight out of Pimp My Ride, and on the other Martha stands in a kitchen straight out of Stepford Wives. There are even (fake?) potted marijuana plants in the backdrop of this set. The set serves as a caricature of both Martha and Snoop, the Queen of domestication and the King of Kush.
The banter between Martha and Snoop is nothing short of comical. Martha tries to come off like the cool grandmother you never had but alongside Snoop it sometimes feels unnatural and scripted. Some of the dialogue even borders on uncomfortable. But, it’s honestly an endearing attempt. “Look at me, I’m wearing a T-shirt, I’m wearing bling!” says Martha, I’m cringing.
“The competition will be as hot as the oil in which we are going to fry,” says Martha. Martha, Martha, Martha. Painful. Just painful.
In the first episode, they start off with a cocktail by Snoop that he calls the “Laid Back,” a simple cocktail made with pineapple juice, green apple Ciroc and Tanqueray. Their fried chicken recipes are also put to the test with assistance from special guests, Seth Rogen and Wiz Khalifa. Seth Rogen calls it “the weirdest group of people ever on a stage together.” Each week will feature a themed recipe and cocktails created by either Martha or Snoop and a new guest to engage in the fun. All recipes are available at VH1.com.

This show is just, a lot. It’s filled with laughs, tips, brief history lessons and even revealing fun facts (Martha Stewart killed a chicken with vodka). But, it has something special about it. I’ve got high hopes for this show.
