New To Campus: Coconut Milk At Starbucks

Attention, coconut milk lovers: you can now get your favorite dairy-free alternative at Starbucks instead of soy or regular milk. After overwhelming demand for another non-dairy option, coconut milk was introduced in stores last month. Coconut milk contains coconut oil, a healthy fat that improves energy and fuels weight loss. Coconut milk also has fewer calories than the vanilla soy milk offered at Starbucks.

Although this is great news for vegans and coconut milk lovers alike, there have been claims that the coconut milk Starbucks rolled out may not be all it’s cracked up to be. The health benefits of Starbucks’ processed coconut milk may be lessened by the multitude of ingredients, including water, coconut cream, sugar, and natural flavor.

Despite this, I tried the coconut milk option in my vanilla latte at Starbucks. I’ve never been a huge fan of coconut milk, but I thought it made the latte super sweet. It was slightly creamier than soy milk and its slightly subtle coconut flavor works best in regular lattes.

The next time you’re at Starbucks with your token vegan friend, give the new coconut milk a try and test its taste in your favorite coffee.
