Doomsday Pasta, “Comfort Food For The End of The World,” is making its temporary home in Salt City Market’s pop-up space. The pop-up opened on February 1st, with a limited menu offering two sandwiches and two pasta dishes, along with appetizers and desserts. This pasta company is female-owned and prioritizes limited and fresh ingredients. All ingredients are locally sourced, even using locally procured salt from the Syracuse Salt Company. According to their website, their pasta is handmade daily and produced in small batches to ensure freshness. Doomsday Pasta also offers private pasta-making classes, workshops, and batches of fresh pasta accompanied by recipe cards.
Now onto the food! Their limited, but carefully curated menu offers two elegant pasta dishes that display both artistry and effort. First, the cavatelli is delicately infused with lemon juice and zest, which is paired with white wine and miso brown butter sauce. A unique flavor profile, yet it accomplishes that umami flavor. The second dish, the egg yolk pappardelle served with their house-made roasted tomato sauce, is everything you want it to be. It’s simple, with the tomato offering some sweetness. The pasta is light, without too much reliance on overbearing flavors. The lemon miso cavatelli is fresh and aromatic, thanks to the citrus notes, and cuts right through the intense miso flavor. The handmade noodles are soft and pillowy without feeling too dense or heavy on the stomach.

Their baguettes are freshly baked each morning, making for a foodie’s dream combination: fresh bread and hand-made pasta. It is certainly obvious that this company is committed to “nourishment for heart, mind, and body.” Surprisingly, you’ll feel good after excessively carb-loading. The fresh-baked bread is decent but more reminiscent of a French loaf rather than a traditional baguette– offering a crispy crust with a satisfyingly soft interior. The pastina soup must be a crowd favorite because it was already sold out by mid-day – a testament to its popularity.
Whether you’re seeking culinary comfort that reminds you of home, or carbs that don’t make you feel guilty, Doomsday Pasta has a dish for you. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience this unique food experience while supporting a local business.
