From TikTok to Table: A Guide to the Best Viral Food Trends

By Sydney Goldberger

Let’s be real, TikTok has jumped to the top of our screen time, and honestly, we’re not mad about it. Between the weird food combos, five-minute hacks, and full-blown cooking tutorials, it’s basically become a personal cookbook.

Some of these recipes are so good, they’ve made it into our weekly routine. Others? Pure chaos. But today, we’re focusing on the trendy recipes that are actually worth trying, and a few underrated gems that deserve to have their viral moment.

Emily Mariko Salmon Bowl

This iconic DIY poke bowl broke the internet for a reason. Leftover or fresh cooked salmon + rice + soy sauce + kewpie mayo + sriracha + avocado + seaweed snacks = the most comforting meal ever. Microwave the salmon and rice with an ice cube (life hack), mix everything together, and wrap it in seaweed like a mini hand roll. It’s cozy, it’s creamy, and if you make extra, it can be multiple meals. The best part about this bowl? It’s completely customizable and you get to repurpose leftovers, the best of both worlds.

Cottage Cheese Ice Cream

Now we know what you’re thinking, what a weird idea. We are aware this one sounds cursed. But trust us, blend your cottage cheese with honey, vanilla, and frozen fruit, then freeze it. It turns into this creamy, high-protein “ice cream” that’s honestly so good. This sweet treat will be the first thing you reach for when you go to open your freezer. The texture is key though, so blend it really well or the consistency might be a little weird. Cottage cheese is all the rage, whether sweet or savory, and it’s popular for a reason.

Smashed Green Onion Potato Bombs

This one isn’t as viral yet, but it should be. All you have to do is boil small potatoes, smash them using a spoon or even the palm of your hand, drizzle with green onion oil (literally just sautéed scallions in oil), and bake until crispy (we like them extra well done). It’s a crunchy, garlicky, salty goodness in every bite. Pro tip: add a little sour cream or spicy mayo dip on the side and you’re unstoppable.

Pesto Eggs

Yes, this recipe became popular two years ago, but they are still so popular. All you do is fry your eggs in a layer of pesto instead of oil, and suddenly you’re transporting yourself to your favorite brunch place. Put it on toast with feta or avocado and a little squeeze of lemon, and it’s perfect. You can even use spicy pesto for that extra little kick. If pesto isn’t your style, tons of people have been substituting it for chili oil from Trader Joe’s. You can’t go wrong with either option, both are the perfect addition to the best homemade meal.

Girl Dinner

Last, but not least, a personal favorite of ours. Why you might ask? Because it is completely subjective and there is actually no right way to go about it. The recipe is staring at the fridge at 7 p.m. and choosing chaos. It’s effortless. You have a jar of pickles, leftover chicken cutlets, and half a container of miso soup left, throw it all together and boom, that’s girl dinner. It’s about romanticizing the fact that you’re too lazy to cook. If you want to be cute with it, throw it on a wooden board or your favorite decorative bowl and call it a Michelin Star meal.
