Trader Joes is known as the breeding ground for Undergraduate snacking at Syracuse University. It is renowned by students for curating the perfect blend of fall exclusives, that makes grocery shopping an activity that my friends look forward to. However, not all items need to be purchased. That’s why I’m here.
I bought, ate, and rated the most interesting seasonal products to save some students a few dollars! My review is honest as follows:
HOT AND SWEET PEPPER JELLY:
8/10
This jelly truly is the best versatile product. I tested it on the Trader Joe’s Pork Spring Rolls, and the sweet and spicy were perfectly matched with each other. It gives the right amount of kick, without overpowering the main dish. I would recommend this to any student who’s a fan of a mild picante salsa.
HOT COCOA POLAR BEAR:
7/10
I was so happy to buy this Trader Joe’s product. It was adorable, and a perfect way to warm up on a frigidly cold Syracuse Sunday. The bear is made from both milk and white chocolate, which when melted into milk, made my cocoa taste like Swiss chocolate (a fan favorite). Although, if you are not a fan of overly sweet hot cocoa, you may want to opt out of this holiday specialty.
BUTTERNUT SQUASH AND CARAMELIZED ONION TART:
8.5/10
I have to say, this “winter” squash dish is the must buy of the season. I pulled it out of the oven, and immediately knew it would be amazing. The squash is covered in a buttery, flakey crust that has a fragrant smell and taste of sage and cayenne. It feeds two and is a great treat for any vegetarian friend. This is a limited product so run to Trader Joe’s before it’s gone!
ITALIAN BLACK SUMMER TRUFFLE SLICES IN OLIVE OIL:
10/10
This Limited-Edition Winter item goes with anything you could possibly think of. The olive oil is so mild that it builds up the flavor of the Black Summer Truffle and creates a rich truffle-fervent flavor. It can go on anything from pasta to a creamy soup. The truffles are smooth, and blend perfectly. At $9.99 these truffles are a more affordable way to add rich flavors to your favorite comfort foods.
